Song recital with soprano and piano

Night and Dreams

A poetic recital with songs by Franz Schubert, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Clara Schumann and Richard Strauss

Maria Nazarova, soprano
Evgenia Fölsche, piano

An evening between dream, memory and longing

Night and Dreams is a song recital about the in-between spaces of the soul: darkness and remembrance, longing and consolation, farewell and transfiguration. In this programme, night appears not only as darkness, but as a space of inner images, quiet confessions and musical transformation.

Works by Franz Schubert, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Clara Schumann and Richard Strauss combine to form an atmospherically coherent arc — from Romantic intimacy and Russian sound poetry to the luminous intensity of late Romanticism.

Programme idea

The recital begins in Franz Schubert’s world, where night, dream and inner unrest become immediate musical language. Clara Schumann’s songs open an intimate and sensitive sound world in which poetic imagery and emotional movement are closely interwoven.

With Sergei Rachmaninoff, a different colour enters the programme: darkly glowing harmonies, broad melodic lines and a distinctive mixture of melancholy and spaciousness. Richard Strauss finally leads the evening into a late-Romantic sphere of memory, devotion and transfiguration.

The result is a programme that does not merely place individual songs side by side, but unfolds an inner dramaturgy: from night as a place of unrest to night as a space of peace.
